The syllabus has the techniques required to reach each grade coloured in the belt colour for that grade. Not all clubs in the KSK use coloured belts, preferring to stay with the white belt until a dan grade is achieved. At Northampton Aikido we do use the colour coding for the grades, as this gives an indication of how well an uke will respond to a technique (tori will be more wary and ensure uke lands or is pinned safely)
The grades
